DJ Your Life
Helloooo Newquay! Nell here :)
‘DJ Your Life’ by SKYDANC3R is a series of FREE, fully-funded music workshops exploring how we use music in our lives + sharing some secrets on how to use music to match, change + boost your mood! ABOUT As a DJ it's always awesome to see how music can lift a crowd, bring happiness, smiles, relaxation and create that perfect moment watching the sunset. We can do that for our own daily lives too. We'll get into how to find and use songs to match your mood - whether as catharsis, to help shift out of negative thought patterns, or just have a dance around! Each week we’ll have a chat about moments when we can use music (roadrage, anyone?!) or use a song to uplift us after a difficult moment, so we don't stay stuck in that mood. We'll also make a playlist for each mood: Week 1: Songs that uplift us Week 2: Music to chill to Week 3: Anger management Week 4: Bring on the sad songs Who's it for? This course is for ALL Women aged 18+ in & around Newquay! Yay!! There are some priority spaces for people who have social isolation, mental health issues such as anxiety or depression, bereavement or long term health conditions. No need to tell us any details, just that you qualify for a priority place - we trust you :) Requirements: No music training is required or equipment besides a smart phone, tablet or laptop and headphones required. Please have spotify, apple music, youtube, or another music app to look up your songs and build playlists. :) How did this develop? In 2018, I ran a music and anxiety workshop at Zebs in Truro, and it was a big hit! I'm excited to bring it to a wider audience and dive deeper into each session with ya girls. When, where..?! We're super lucky to have beautiful Palm Bay as the tropical setting for our workshops (see pics below)! It's in Central Newquay near Concho lounge if ya haven't visited yet. We'll be running for 4 x sessions on TUESDAYS, 7pm-9pm in May! Dates: 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th. Sign me up NOW! There are limited places, but the first 3 people to confirm they wanna join will be guaranteed! Message to book via the form ASAP! We will reserve 6 Priority places for anyone with health issues, as we are funded + supported by Arts Well charity, Cornwall Council + Blystra Arts :) (please note, only I will contact you and won't spam ya rubbish, promise.) SEE YA SOON! Nell xo |

"Zebs was bouncing last night with Skydanc3r bringing the tunes and insight into music and how it can help our mental health. Amazing workshop and highly recommended!" - Luke, Zebs - Young People Cornwall (Facebook page) |
Nell Sanders - background
Music played a huge part in helping me recover from severe anxiety (see Chill page). I'm stoked to be able to bring together things that have helped me, and put that into a workshop to help others manage their anxiety, and give hope that you can recover fully.
I ran Music Wings music production courses for Adults with Autism & Aspergers, and co-taught on a DJ course, both with Volunteer Cornwall. I've also volunteered as a surf buddy for the Wave Project since 2015, which involves listening to young people talk about their mental, and physical health issues. I hope to be able to bring that friendly, positive vibe, whilst also addressing sensitive issues, and giving people the space and opportunity for finding better coping mechanisms.
During 2020-2022, I founded and ran Produce Like a Girl, which is a group of 400+ female and non-binary music producers from 25+ countries. We had near-weekly zoom sessions, hosted masterclasses, and had accountability sessions each week to see how everyone's getting on! So I reeeeally get the emotions of a song from the first few notes, to instrument choices, to then choosing and playing songs at the perfect time on the dance floor!
Volunteer Cornwall/EU also kindly paid for me to gain an Adult Education Level 3 teaching qualification (2015), to enable me to create and deliver classes in the most useful, relevant way. Well I try.... ;)
